Hamburg Open

The Hamburg Open are the oldest of Germany's three ATP 500 tournaments: a clay-court event at the Rothenbaum in the Harvestehude district, played in May, in the week before Roland-Garros. Tennium and the German Tennis Federation stage it, and Enric Molina is the tournament director.

The organiser dates the tournament's beginnings to 1892; it was long called the German Open, and play has been at the Rothenbaum since 1924. When the ATP Tour was founded in 1990 Hamburg belonged to the Masters Series, today's Masters 1000, and stayed there until 2008; it has been a 500 since 2009, a demotion its organisers fought in the American courts and lost. Roger Federer holds the professional-era record with four titles. Its date moved too: July, after Wimbledon, from 2009 until 2024, and since 2025 the week that leads into Roland-Garros — historically where the tournament always sat.
